The Therapeutic Recreation team at Our Lady of Consolation strives to promote joy and hope through meaningful and therapeutic programs that recreate the spirit of all our patients and residents. Comprehensive, individualized programs are comprised of cognitive, physical, intellectual, creative, social and solitary recreational pursuits.
Therapeutic recreation services are provided every day of the year, including weekends, evenings and holidays. Programs take place in a variety of settings such as our spacious auditorium, dining rooms, day rooms, and lounges, as well as in the residents room if they are room bound. Our beautiful garden and pavilion area is also utilized for many programs when weather permits. Community outings, special events, pet therapy, computer access, art therapy, happy hour, and other cultural programs round out these dynamic services. Self directed leisure activities are highly encouraged.
Family members and friends are encouraged to join their loved one in participating in any of our scheduled programs.
Creative Art Therapy
Included in our Therapeutic Recreation program is a Creative Arts Therapy program, run by licensed art therapists who use active engagement in the arts to address mental, emotional, developmental and behavioral disorders. Creative art therapists are trained in psychotherapy and specific art disciplines. By guiding patients to create and reflect on art and the artistic process, creative art therapists help people increase awareness of self and others, cope with symptoms of stress, illness and trauma, and enhance cognitive abilities. At Our Lady of Consolation, art therapy is sometimes used with speech and occupational therapies to lessen physical disabilities.
