West Islip, NY 11795 – Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative Care Center has recently introduced an innovative rehabilitation nursing assistant program designed to expand the traditional role of the certified nursing assistant and bring a new understanding of the philosophy, mission and goals of rehabilitation nursing to the daily care given by nursing assistants. Nursing assistants immersed in the program expand their skills by learning restorative nursing care, including safe lifting and transferring of patients, use and maintenance of mobility devices, ambulation and post rehabilitation care.
This new program is part of a performance based career development model, also new to Our Lady of Consolation. Both programs are geared to promote Our Lady of Consolation’s ultimate goal, which is to become the center for Gerontological and Rehabilitation Nursing.
Our Lady of Consolation is a 450-bed nursing and rehabilitative care center conducted in the tradition of the Sisters of St. Dominic since 1894 and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). As a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island, Our Lady of Consolation plays an integral role in the health care delivery system of the Diocese of Rockville Centre and offers expertise in the field of long term care and sub-acute care.
