Our Lady of Consolation Nursing and Rehabilitive Care Center Welcomes Father James Vlaun to its Board of Trustees

West Islip, NY 11795 – Our Lady of Consolation Nursing and Rehabilitative Care Center is pleased to welcome Father James C. Vlaun and Frank M. Cappuccio to its Board of Trustees. The process by which each candidate was chosen began with a personal recommendation from an existing member of the Board of Trustees. After approval by the Board of Trustees nominating committee and the entire board, Catholic Health Services of Long Island granted final approval of each candidate.
Although he is new to Consolation’s Board of Governors, Father Jim has a long-standing history of service to many South Shore communities. Currently, Father Jim serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, as a member of the Board of Babylon for the Homeless and Blind, as a member of the Y.E.S. Commission and also as a member of the Development board for St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip. He has also served as a Board member for Hospice of the South Shore, West Islip Family Committee and the Catholic Institute of t he Food Industry.
While he fills the roll of Chaplain at St. John the Baptist High School, Father Jim also has a myriad of additional responsibilities. He serves as the host and executive producer of nationally syndicated radio show “Religion and Rock” on WBAB-FM, he is the co-host of the annual Telicare telethon, he is the Catholic Co-Chaplain for the New York Jets football team and as Associate Vocation Director for the Diocese of Rockville Centre. In addition, Father Jim maintains adjunct faculty status at the New York Institute of Technology and St. John’s University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy & Sociology from Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, a Master of Divinity from the Immaculate Conception Seminary and a Master of Arts in Communications from the New York Institute of Technology. Father Jim was ordained as a Catholic priest for the Diocese of Rockville Center in 1988.
Our Lady of Consolation is a 450-bed nursing and rehabilitative care center conducted in the tradition of the Sisters of St. Dominic since 1894 and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). As a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island, Our Lady of Consolation plays an integral role in the health care delivery system of the Diocese of Rockville Centre and offers expertise in the field of long term care and sub-acute care. In addition to skilled nursing home care including geriatric care, rehabilitative care, respiratory therapy and medically complex care, Consolation offers specialized dementia disease care for individuals with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s and related dementia diseases.
