West Islip, NY 11795 – Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative Care Center has implemented an innovative performance based career development model as an incentive for nursing staff members to increase their skills and knowledge and provide staffing effectiveness. This model allows Certified Nursing Assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses to move up a three-step “ladder” specifically designed for their level of nursing licensure. To move throughout the levels, the staff must complete job specific educational requirements through in-service classes and projects. In addition, job performance, attendance and punctuality are contributing factors to advancement. Staff members who achieve advancement through the career ladder are recognized with title and financial awards. Our Lady of Consolation’s ultimate goal is to become the learning center for geriontological and rehabilitative care.
“As one of the largest employers on the South Shore of Long Island, Our Lady of Consolation is committed to providing on-going job and educational advancement opportunities to benefit its employees,” said Vice President of Performance Improvement and Regulatory Affairs Gail Holtz, RN, MSN. “The end result of nursing staff members moving through the career ladder is the securing of a strong support system for all nursing staff and increased quality of care for the facility’s patients and residents,” she stated.
