Our History

Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative Care Center has been providing quality care and service for the frail, ill and elderly individuals since 1894 when it was first established as Saint Catherine’s Infirmary, a convalescent home in Amityville, Long Island under the direction of the Sisters of Saint Dominic. In 1933 it was named Our Lady of Consolation Home for the Aged and in 1975, the home was relocated to West Islip, overlooking the Great South Bay, and named Consolation Residence.

From 1975 to 1997, Our Lady of Consolation operated as a 250-bed geriatric nursing home. Since then, Our Lady of Consolation has grown significantly. In 1997, the nursing home opened a new 80,000 sq. ft. 200-bed addition to its existing facility. To reflect the many diversified services it began to offer, the name was changed to Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative Care Center.

Today, as a 450-bed post acute and long term nursing and rehabilitative care center, Our Lady of Consolation provides compassionate care for patients and residents over 16 years of age and older who are in need of restorative rehabilitative, geriatric, medically complex and specialized dementia disease care. In addition, Our Lady of Consolation continues to offer a wide array of coordinated skilled health care and supportive services for home care patients.

As a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island, Our Lady of Consolation plays an integral role in the healthcare delivery system of the Diocese of Rockville Centre and offers continuing care expertise.
